Preparation method of titanium diboride

Leave a message

Among various synthetic routes, electrochemical synthesis and solid phase reaction have been developed for the large-scale preparation of titanium diboride. An example of solid reaction is the thermal reduction of boron carbide, which can be illustrated by the following reaction equation [2]:
2TiO2 + B4C + 3C → 2TiB2 + 4 CO
The vapor deposition method uses titanium tetrachloride and boron trichloride as raw materials, and in the presence of hydrogen, the deposition temperature is 800-1000℃, and abrasive and electronic grade products can be produced [2]:
TiCl4 + 2BCl3 + 5H2 → TiB2 + 10HCl
In addition, there are methods such as direct reaction of boron and titanium solid phase at high temperature [1], liquid phase reaction of sodium borohydride and titanium tetrachloride, and solvent thermal reaction.
