B4C boron carbide ceramic plates

are a noteworthy ceramic material with extensive applications in civil, aerospace, and military fields. B4C's most notable feature is its exceptional hardness (Mohs hardness 9.36, microhardness 55GPa-67GPa), second only to diamond and cubic boron nitride. Furthermore, boron carbide has a low density (2.52g/cm³), a high melting point (2450°C), high high-temperature strength, and excellent chemical stability (boron carbide generally does not react with chemical reagents at room temperature, but corrodes slowly in mixtures of hydrofluoric acid, sulfuric acid, and hydrofluoric acid, making it a chemically stable compound). B4C boron carbide ceramic plates exhibit excellent neutron absorption and thermoelectric properties (140s·m⁻¹ at room temperature), making them suitable for use in the manufacture of bulletproof armor, cutting tools, specialized acid- and alkali-resistant materials, thermocouples, and nuclear reactor control and shielding materials. Furthermore, due to its exceptional properties, researchers have also begun researching boron carbide coatings.
